Problem Statement
Design & Narrative Challenge
Glitch is a psychological, multimedia short film exploring the boundaries of digital dependency, sensory distortion, and human isolation. The story follows a protagonist trapped in a surreal feedback loop driven by infinite mobile scrolling. The primary creative challenge was translating abstract psychological states, specifically the disorientation of late-night screen addiction, into a cohesive visual language. The project required balancing low-light cinematography with stylized post-production techniques to evoke a clean, dystopian, and slightly retro-futuristic atmosphere without losing the emotional weight of the character’s reality.
Design Process
Atmosphere & Visual Style
The visual framework was heavily influenced by a high-vibrancy, high-intellect aesthetic, leaning into deep chromatic blue tones to represent the omnipresent, sterile glow of technology. I structured a meticulous shot list focusing on claustrophobic close-ups and deliberate tracking movements as the actor navigated a mundane morning routine that quickly fractured. In the editing phase, I integrated pixelated transitions, screen-tearing effects, and audio-driven datamoshing to mimic an internal system error, effectively making the medium of video a direct reflection of the protagonist's mental state.
Final Design
The final cut of Glitch delivers an immersive, rhythmic experience where sound and color tell the story. By contrasting the cool, oppressive blue lighting of the indoor spaces with a bright, overexposed reality outside the window, the film visualizes the cognitive dissonance of the digital age. The character's physical actions, such as waking up, scrolling, and moving through a bathroom routine, are constantly broken apart by visual stuttering and vintage computer media audio cues, emphasizing a growing detachment from real-time existence.
